Direct Source Seafood LLC is recalling tens of thousands of bags of frozen raw shrimp after determining the products may have been exposed to a contaminant during handling and storage. The recall was announced on Friday, Dec. 19, according to a notice posted by the US Food and Drug Administration.
The Bellevue, Washington-based company said approximately 83,800 bags of frozen raw shrimp imported from Indonesia are affected. The products were sold under the Market 32 and Waterfront Bistro brand names at grocery stores across multiple states.
The company said the shrimp may have been prepared, packed, or held under conditions that could have exposed them to very low levels of cesium-137, also known as Cs-137. Cs-137 is a man-made radioactive material that can be present in the environment, particularly in areas with contamination.
Health officials say the primary concern is not short-term exposure, but the potential risk tied to longer-term, repeated low-dose exposure. According to the FDA, repeated consumption of contaminated food over time can increase the risk of cancer due to damage to DNA within the body’s cells.

Market 32 frozen raw shrimp sold in 1-pound bags with best-by dates ranging from April 22, 2027, through April 27, 2027.

These items were sold at Price Chopper locations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont after July 11, 2025.
Waterfront Bistro frozen raw shrimp sold in 2-pound bags with best-by dates of April 25, 2027, or April 26, 2027. These products were sold at Jewel-Osco, Albertsons, Safeway, Lucky, and Supermarket stores in Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming on or after June 30, 2025.
The FDA said it is continuing to investigate reports of Cs-137 contamination tied to shipping containers and frozen shrimp produced in Indonesia. Officials emphasized that no product that has tested positive for Cs-137 has entered the US marketplace.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled shrimp.
