The get-togethers take place the first and third Sundays of the month from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Creative Learning Center, at 32 Le Count Place. in New Rochelle. The program is open to children three to eight years old.
“Family Days are a unique way to nurture the social and emotional development of young children with autism spectrum disorders while providing support and respite for their parents and caregivers,” says Kathy Mulchay-Morgan. “For us, it is amazing to be able to support families in a fun, safe and engaging environment.”
During Family Days, children play, sing, take part in circle time, do yoga, and make arts and crafts with the support of special education teachers and social workers. The parents talk and network with each other, creating their own community of support. Diet-sensitive snacks are provided. In addition, TGCW also offers a free monthly parent-only support group on Wednesday mornings and can provide free counseling services for individuals or couples.
Upcoming Sunday Family Days are from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 17; May 1 and 15; June 5 and 26; July 10 and 24. Upcoming Wednesday Morning Groups are May 4; June 8, July 13. Counseling services are scheduled by appointment.
While drop-ins are welcome for the Family Days and Wednesday Morning Group, RSVPs are encouraged for planning purposes. Anyone interested can contact Suzanne Prigoda [email protected] or 914-712-6612.
