Fredric Padgett Jr. took pride in helping to shape Stamford. His work as a construction foreman for many of the city's unique buildings allowed him to put his technical expertise to use enhancing the urban landscape of his home city.
Padgett was buried in Stamford on Wednesday, after a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He died Dec. 19 after a long illness. He was 53.
After attending St. Mary's Elementary School, Padgett studied plumbing and heating at J.M. Wright Technical School and graduated as valedictorian. He earned five licenses and progressed to the status of journeyman with the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local 173. A portion of his career was spent as facilities director at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien and Avalon Corporate Suites in Stamford.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed applying his professional skills at the Sterling Farms Golf Course. He was charged, as a mayor-appointed member of the Stamford Golf Authority, with helping to direct the maintenance and renovation of the course and all buildings.
Padgett was member of St. Mary's Church, where he grew up and served as an altar boy. He achieved the level of third-degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, St. Augustine Council 41.
His survivors include daughter Mary Christina Padgett; son Fredric Carl Padgett III; parents Fredric Sr. and Mary Ferguson Padgett; brother Thomas and wife Sherry Padgett of Huntington; sister Katherine and husband Gary Padgett Mair; and two nephews.
