Frank Alonso was suspended without pay "due to allegations of alarming irregularities regarding his duties and responsibilities," Hudson County Executive Craig Guy said.

Guy, who did not give any details, said the matter has been referred to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Alonso previously ran in the Democratic primary for State Assemblyman District 33, calling himself "a government ethics watchdog... who protects residents from scams and price gouging."
