MOUNT KISCO, NY-- How will I ever remember exponential growth and decay? What's the difference in affect or effect, and for goodness sake, what does querulous mean? These are just a few questions floating around Fox Lane High School students' minds as SAT time approaches.
Guidance Coordinator, Steve Marcisz, and Fox Lane High School want to help put students at ease when it comes to their SAT exam. Seniors at Fox Lane High School will be taking their SAT exam on Saturday.
The kids taking the SAT now are seniors, so most have taken the SAT exam once or twice before, said Marcisz. In their junior year, the school provides each student with a lot of information on how to register for the SAT and how to utilize different resources.
Fox Lane High School does not have any programs or units built into their curriculum for SAT preparation. The responsibility is on the student and their parents for preparation, said Marcisz. Most students take advantage of private tutoring and test preparation services.
The school advises students to visit www.CollegeBoard.com and www.Number2.com, which offers free SAT and ACT preparation. The school also rents out rooms to places like Kaplan and Bedford Prep during the school year. These places offer test preparation to students that would like to participate.
Chyten Educational Services is an in-Home ACT preparation service located in Mount Kisco that students who are planning on going to a university in the Mid-West or South may want to check out.
Every parent wants their children to attend a college and further their education, and taking the SAT is just the beginning of the long college process. Fox Lane High School will also be holding a College Planning Program Tuesday at 7 p.m. for parents of seniors. The discussion will focus on how parents and students can get organized and apply for schools.
