WHITE PLAINS The fourth man indicted in the May 2010 severe beating of a Peekskill man will face 11 years in state prison.
Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Jarron Sligh, 24, of Peekskill, was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years in state prison on the charge of first-degree gang assault, a class B Felony. Sligh faced an increased penalty at sentencing due to violating terms of a negotiated plea deal since he was previously arraigned on one count of assault while confined in a correctional facility, a class D Felony, on April 14.
According to the District Attorneys Office, at 1:40 a.m. on May 14 2010, the four men were hanging out at the corner of Nelson Avenue and John Street in Peekskill with several other males when one of the defendants observed the victim walking up Nelson Avenue on the opposite side of the street. One of the defendants approached the victim and began to harass him, ultimately striking the victim in the face. The victim then fled into the courtyard of 205 Nelson Avenue, and, hearing the defendants coming, attempted to escape by going inside the building. All four defendants ran into the vestibule and proceeded to stomp and punch victim. The four defendants then fled the scene. A resident returning to the building found the victim and called 911.
The victim was hospitalized for a month with a fractured skull, brain damage, a broken cheek, a broken eye socket, a broken jaw, broken ribs and a ruptured spleen. Another defendant, Keith Walker, 20, was sentenced on June 16 and, on December 14, 2010, Ronnie Juett, 25, and Jamar [Brickhouse] Walker, 21, were each sentenced to eight year sentences in state prison following their guilty pleas for first-degree gang assault, a class B felony.
