Four Somers Orthopaedic Doctors Honored

MT. KISCO, N.Y. - Four physicians from an orthopaedic and sports medicine group with roots in Somers were recently among a select few honored with the prestigious 2011 Patients' Choice Award.

Dr. Douglas Fauser, Dr. Joel Buchalter, Dr. Victor Khabie and Dr. Jason Melnick of Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine, which was founded in Somers in 1988 by Fauser and Buchalter, were ranked among the top physicians in the country.

Only five percent of the nation's 720,000 active physicians were given the honor based upon patient reviews who share feedback about experiences with doctors in such areas as accuracy of their diagnosis, time spent with patients and follow-up care.

"We are extremely proud to be recognized in this manner. Providing excellence in patient care is what we are all about," said Buchalter, who is co-director with Fauser at the Orthopaedic Institute at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.

"A patient's experience with a physician's office involves interactions with a variety of different health care professionals," Fauser said. "I could not have received this award without the help of all the members of my team. It is a great honor to accept this award on behalf of all of us."

Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group has a staff of 15 physicians, five physicians' assistants, three physical therapists and a supporting staff of over 100. The physicians specialize in diagnosing and treating all orthopaedic, rheumatological and pain management problems in adults and children.

With state-of-the-art facilities in Mount Kisco, Carmel and three other locations, the group's physicians perform all types of arthroscopic surgery, ACL reconstruction, minimally invasive joint replacement, sports care, spinal surgery, fracture care, and hand, ankle and foot surgery.

"As a sports medicine surgeon, my goal is to get the injured athlete back on the field as fast as possible," Khabie said. "Being selected by my patients for this award is one of the greatest honors I could receive."

The group relocated from Somers to Carmel in 2000 when the practice expanded.
