NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Rev. Richard McCormick, 72, formerly of New Rochelle, who already faces five charges of child rape, was arraigned Friday in Salem, Mass., on an additional count of rape of a child based on the allegations of a second victim.
A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.
McCormick, of the Salesian Brothers of Don Bosco, was indicted on the additional charge March 7 after a second victim came forward late last year. The new indictment alleges that McCormick raped a child between the ages of 7 and 9 from 1981 to 1983 at the former Retreat Center of the Salesian Brothers in Ipswich, Mass. He was initially arrested last August on charges of raping of another child at the retreat center.
According to a statement from the Essex district attorney's office, Judge Timothy Feeley released McCormick on the same conditions as in the previous charges. Those conditions were amended by the court Oct. 23 and require him to reside at the Vianney Renewal Center in Missouri; report to Superior Court Probation by telephone once a week and in person on every court appearance; attend every court appearance; and not have unsupervised contact with minors.
A bail warning was also issued, saying that if the defendant violates any of the conditions or fails to appear in court, he can be held without bail for up to 60 days.
The new case is scheduled for a pretrial conference and the old case is scheduled for a status hearing June 5.
