Robert Warrington, 37, a former City of Bowie police officer, was sentenced on Friday, Sept. 11 in Prince George's County Circuit Court in connection with a September 2024 shooting along Collington Road in Bowie.

The sentence: 30 years, with all but 18 months suspended.

Those 18 months will be served on home detention.

The punishment came nearly four months after the same judge found Warrington guilty following a two-day bench trial in May.

Prosecutors had asked that Warrington spend five years in prison.

Instead, after hearing arguments from both sides on Friday, the judge allowed him to serve his active sentence at home, according to the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office.

Warrington was found guilty following a two-day bench trial of:

  • Attempted second-degree murder;
  • First-degree assault;
  • Reckless endangerment;
  • Misconduct in office.

A judge sentenced him to 30 years in prison, suspending all but 18 months, to be served on home detention, as well as 5 years of supervised probation, with additional home detention to be served during the first 18 months.

“We place a great deal of trust in those sworn to uphold the law, and that trust comes with a great responsibility,” State’s Attorney Tara Jackson stated. “The defendant’s actions placed innocent people in danger and violated the trust placed in him as a police officer. Our continued pursuit of justice in this case and in others reinforces our belief that no one is above the law."
