AccuWeather reports that a series of disturbances could move from west to east beginning Friday, Jan. 23, and continuing through Monday, Jan. 26. These systems may bring rounds of snow, ice, or a wintry mix to many parts of the central and eastern US, including the Northeast.
This colder air mass will help set the stage for snow or ice where moisture and storm tracks line up.
Forecasters highlight a broad zone from the Rockies through the Midwest, Appalachians, and into the Northeast labeled “snow and ice potential.” A storm track shown in red arrows indicates that multiple systems could strengthen as they push east.
AccuWeather meteorologists say these storms may bring “significant impacts depending on the exact track and timing,” adding that temperatures during this period could fluctuate just enough to create both snow and ice hazards.
The next sequence of storms expected late this week will be driven by a combination of persistent cold air and a favorable jet‑stream setup, similar to patterns that often produce winter weather during late January.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says dry conditions will continue through midweek before the next wave of moisture approaches.
AccuWeather notes that further updates will become clearer as the week progresses, particularly once the first wave organizes in the West.
