PEEKSKILL There will be a party all day long Friday at the Kiley Youth Center and it is being held for a good cause.
Andre Rainey, also known as Noodle, and his Noo Moves Entertainment (NME) are inviting all to attend their second annual For the Children Fundraiser. The fundraiser will be held at the Kiley Center starting at approximately 11 a.m. and will end at approximately 4 p.m.
There will be a four-hour fish fry with cakes, pies, soda, water, snacks, and much more, for sale to help raise money. The fish dinners will be $5 for a sandwich and a side of fries or cole slaw. Cake slices will be $1 as well as a soda or juice.
The end of summer brings about many feelings, and for some it causes a lot of stress because there are many children and their families who struggle to afford new school supplies, as the beginning of school draws near, Rainey said. Most importantly, we created an event to take care of that stress in our own community, for those who are unable to afford these necessities.
The NME team created the fundraiser to help change the lives of eighteen children, decided by the employees of the Peekskill Youth Bureau and Peekskill Housing Authoritys Creative Learning Center Program each year.
The money raised, donated, and earned will be used to purchase individual book bags packed with school supplies: pen, pencil, sharpener, folder, notebook, notebook paper and an eraser, as well as a complimentary Its a Noo Day t-shirt. Numerous people have already volunteered to cook, set up, serve, and clean up, including Mary E. Rainey of the Peekskill Community Action Program, Thomas Robinson of Bronx Middle School, and many more.
There will be entertainment from local bands, dancers, and others, that have been gracious enough to donate their time as well as perform positive, appropriate, non-violent material, so that all ages are welcome to come eat, dance, and support the cause.
There will also be a DJ playing music to keep the crowd entertained in between performers.
We at NME recognize that the kids are our future and our responsibility, therefore this event is primarily designed to promote the importance of giving back to and supporting those in our community, as well as encouraging kids to stay in school, Rainey said. We plan to do similar events yearly, and hope to expand to other cities and communities, providing bigger and better gifts for the children. We also hope to get more donations, sponsors, participants, and volunteer entertainment as well!
