FAIRFIELD, Conn. A traffic stop for a missing license plate led to the arrest of a man wanted for kidnapping and domestic battery Monday afternoon.
Willie Edwards, 43, currently of Bunnell Street in Bridgeport, was charged as a fugitive from justice by Fairfield police.
Edwards was heading east on Kings Highway at about 5:45 p.m. Monday when a Fairfield police officer saw that his car allegedly did not have its front license plate displayed, police said. When police pulled him over to inform Edwards of the violation, a check of Edwards drivers license showed he had an extraditable warrant from Jacksonville, Fla., police said.
Police said they confirmed through past photos and arrest records Edwards was the man wanted in Florida. He was taken into custody Monday to await extradition, police said. He is being held on a $50,000 bond and is due in court April 5.
