UPDATE: The powerful storm that pushed through the area dumping up to 2 inches of rain an hour, caused flooded roads, scattered power outages and downed tree limbs. A flood watch is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.
After the storm moves through this afternoon, the forecast calls for cool, clear weather tonight and Saturday.
No major delays were reported on Metro-North Railroad. Town officials urged drivers to be cautious. Drivers were warned not to drive on flooded streets because standing water can be deeper than it appears.
Outdoor after-school activities in Westport were canceled Thursday.
First Selectman Gordon Joseloff ordered partial activation of the town's Emergency Operations Center to accommodate department heads as well as to coordinate with CL&P representatives on power outages.
"We expect downed trees, power lines and flooding," Joseloff said.
