Fishkill Parent Wants Better Communication With School

FISHKILL, N.Y. -- A Brinckerhoff Elementary School parent is hoping that Wappingers Central School District officials make changes in how they communicate serious incidents to parents following a BB-gun incident last month at the Fishkill school, according to a Poughkeepsie Journal report.

Alicia Alfred said she was upset to find out about the incident from her children, not the school district. Late last month, a sixth-grader brought broken BB-gun to school, the Poughkeepsie Journal says.

Superintendent Jose Carrion said school officials quickly assessed the problem and dealt with it. He said there isn't a district policy about calls to parents, but Alfred said she hope that will change, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports.
