At 5:02 a.m., emergency crews were sent to 107 Roosevelt Ave., after a report of smoke inside the residence, officials said.
When responders arrived, they saw smoke coming from the outside of the home and confirmed the fire had started in the basement. A working fire was declared as crews began battling the flames.
Firefighters entered the home to search for anyone inside and to try to knock down the fire, according to the department. As conditions worsened, additional alarms were requested to bring more crews to the scene.
Despite efforts to fight the fire from inside the home, conditions deteriorated and firefighters were ordered to evacuate. A third alarm was then transmitted to bring in more resources.
Crews later switched to fighting the fire from outside the house, using exterior hose lines and an aerial stream. The fire was eventually brought under control, and firefighters conducted extensive checks to make sure no hidden fire remained.
All residents made it out safely, officials said. One firefighter was treated for minor burns. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Bergenfield Fire Investigation Team.
Fire departments from Dumont, Teaneck, Englewood, New Milford, Tenafly, Cresskill, River Edge, Oradell, Haworth, Paramus, and Harrington Park assisted at the scene, according to the release.
