WESTPORT, Conn. A pile of old computers outside Bedford Middle School in Westport was destroyed after they caught fire Tuesday afternoon.
The blaze started shortly after 12:30 p.m., Assistant Fire Chief Robert Kepchar reported. Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a pile of old computers located along the loading dock. The computers were being discarded.
As firefighters went to work extinguishing the flames, the school was evacuated because some smoke had gotten inside the building, Kepchar said. No fire damage was reported to the inside of the building.
The cause of the fire was being investigated by the fire marshal's office. The last fire department vehicle left the school at 2:42 p.m.
