The fire happened just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, when fire crews were dispatched to Aurora Restaurant at 60 Purchase St. in Rye, according to the Rye Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived in under a minute and found both businesses in the building already evacuated.
Crews then found a small fire on the rear portion of the roof. An aerial ladder was put at the front of the building, while ground ladders were set up behind the structure to access the fire. Firefighters then removed sections of roofing material to reach the source of the flames, put them out, and checked for any extension.
Officials said the incident caused minimal damage and was quickly brought under control.
The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team investigated the incident and determined the fire was accidental, originating during an attempt to remove ice from the roof and gutter area.
All units were cleared from the scene by 5:35 p.m., fire officials said.
