PEEKSKILL, N.Y. The Field Library is celebrating 125 years of serving the community this year, and will be holding a spelling bee for area youth as part of the year-long party.
The event will kick off with two preliminary round events: One on Thursday, May 10 at 4:30 p.m. for grades four through seven and another on Thursday, May 17 at 4:30 p.m. for grades first through three.
The final round will be held on Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. and will hosted by WHUD radio host Kacey Morabito.
Participants are being encouraged to register in advance by calling the library at (914) 737-0847.
Children Programing Librarian Sally Bentley said the idea for the event came from "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," a popular musical.
"There will be free books for all kids who enter on every level and there will prizes for the final round," Bentley said.
