Nationwide Supplement Recall Expands Amid Safety Concerns: What To Know

Federal regulators have expanded a nationwide dietary supplement recall, adding two more brands after separate safety reviews uncovered undeclared ingredients that could pose serious health risks to consumers.

The FDA said that additional dietary supplements sold across the US are now included in recall actions tied to undeclared allergens and unapproved drug ingredients.

The FDA said that additional dietary supplements sold across the US are now included in recall actions tied to undeclared allergens and unapproved drug ingredients. The products were distributed nationwide through online and mail-order sales.

One of the expanded recalls involves HerbsForever LLC, which is pulling multiple dietary supplements because they may contain undeclared wheat.

The affected products include Hingwastik Churna powder, Hingwastika Extract capsules, and Gastro Care capsules. People with wheat allergies face a risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume products containing wheat.

The recalled HerbsForever items were distributed nationwide via mail order. The company said no illnesses have been reported to date. The issue was discovered during a routine FDA inspection, which found that an ingredient known as Hing may have been dried with flour containing wheat.

Consumers who purchased the affected HerbsForever products are urged to stop using them and contact the company by email for return instructions and a full refund.

In a separate action announced the same day, Modern Warrior expanded the scope of the broader recall landscape after voluntarily pulling all lots of its Modern Warrior Ready dietary supplement. Regulatory testing identified undeclared ingredients, including tianeptine, 1,4-DMAA, and aniracetam.

According to the FDA, tianeptine can cause life-threatening effects, including suicidal ideation or behavior, particularly among children, adolescents, and adults aged 25 and younger. Use of 1,4-DMAA may elevate blood pressure and increase the risk of serious cardiovascular problems, including heart attack and shortness of breath.

The Modern Warrior product was sold nationwide online and marketed for metabolism boosting, improved brain function, and reduced cravings. The company said it has stopped distribution, removed the product from sale, and quarantined remaining inventory.

Consumers who purchased Modern Warrior Ready are advised to stop using the product immediately.

The FDA had warned consumers after a nationwide recall of Silintan capsules marketed for joint and body aches. That product was found to contain meloxicam, an undeclared prescription-only nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which made it an unapproved new drug under federal law.

The FDA said taking meloxicam unknowingly can increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events, gastrointestinal bleeding, and kidney injury, particularly among older adults and those taking certain medications.
