Barnes, 19, of York, was located at a residence in York City and taken into custody without incident by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the Pennsylvania State Police. He had been wanted by York County Regional Police since December in connection with the killing of Bartlett, 23, of Douglassville.
Barnes and Tajai Markeise Robert Scott, 25, of Philadelphia, both face multiple felony charges in connection with the Dec. 24 shooting.
Barnes is charged with:
- Felony Murder of the Second Degree.
- Felony Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
- Felony Robbery – Inflict Serious Bodily Injury.
- Felony Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.
- Felony Criminal Use of a Communication Facility.
Scott is charged with:
- Felony Murder of the First Degree.
- Felony Murder of the Second Degree.
- Felony Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
- Felony Robbery – Inflict Serious Bodily Injury.
- Felony Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.
- Felony Criminal Use of a Communication Facility.
- Felony Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License.
Bartlett was found inside a Honda Accord in the parking lot of the Sheetz at 4309 North George Street Extension around 5:05 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at 5:32 p.m. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.
According to the York County District Attorney’s Office, surveillance video and witness accounts provided a detailed timeline:
- 5:01 p.m. — Bartlett’s Honda backs into a parking space.
- 5:04 p.m. — A Hyundai sedan carrying Barnes and Scott backs into the adjacent space.
- 5:05 p.m. — Scott gets into the front passenger seat of Bartlett’s Honda.
- 5:06 p.m. — Barnes enters the rear passenger side.
- 5:09 p.m. — The Honda accelerates and crashes into a parked vehicle. Scott shoots Bartlett multiple times and fires out the driver’s window. Barnes flees from the rear driver’s door and runs behind the Sheetz. Scott crawls out the shattered driver’s window holding a handgun, gets back in the Hyundai, picks up Barnes, and the pair flee the scene.
Investigators later found two cell phones inside Bartlett’s car—one belonging to Scott and one to Barnes—as well as several forms of Scott’s identification.
Scott was taken into custody earlier this year. With Barnes’ arrest, both suspects in Bartlett’s murder are now behind bars.
