FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield American fans at Colony Grill cheered every strike and every hit, all the way to the final out, even as the town's favorite 12-year-olds were eliminated from the Little League World Series on Tuesday.
Every TV in the restaurant and bar was tuned to the Fairfield American game on ESPN, with a crowd of about 100 who raucously supported every positive moment for the team. Unfortunately, there was little to cheer as Fairfield's mighty offense was held to just three hits by the pitchers from Petaluma, Calif.
Fans yelled for American's players after their dream run came to an end, treasuring how the team brought the town together.
"It's definitely been exciting to see the kids out there," Fairfield resident Ned Dwelle said. "What other sport can you see 12-year-olds on TV and get a whole bar full of people come out to watch?"
It has been a thrill to see hundreds of fans come out to watch the games, said Billy Plotkin, owner of Colony Grill's Fairfield location.
"Every game we've been packed here, day or night," he said. "It's such a great experience to see all the families of the kids have a great time. We're real proud of them for what they've done."
