Department of Public Works crews cleared the branches from the westbound lanes of Yonkers Avenue shortly before 5 p.m.  The lanes remained partially closed as crews continued to work on the fallen tree on the side of the road.

The tree was reported down shortly after 3 p.m. Friday, blocking both westbound lanes and causing extensive delays along the roadway, near the Dunwoodie Golf Course and the Saw Mill River exit.

The lane blockages slowed mid-day traffic in both directions, with westbound lanes nearly at a stand-still and cars backed up past Midland Avenue.

There is no word on what caused the tree to fall as of yet.
