FAIRFIELD, Conn. State Rep. Tony Hwang officially launched his re-election campaign this week. The Republican hopes to hold on to his seat in the 134th District, which represents Fairfield and Trumbull.
My critical mission is to commit to the community in everything I do and practice legislative government with a common sense approach, Hwang said at his campaign kickoff Wednesday at Colony Grill.
Hwang is serving his second term in the state House of Representatives. He defeated Democratic challenger Michael Murren with more than 70 percent of the vote in 2010.
But Hwangs district, like all of Fairfields state House of Representatives seats, has changed since 2010. Last fall, the state redistricting committee redrew the lines for the states districts. The 134th now includes more of Fairfield, including all northern sections of town. The portions in Trumbull were mostly unchanged.
Hang said his common sense approach would help create jobs and drive small businesses to grow while keeping taxes low. He also stressed his involvement in the community, and frequent appearances at town meetings, social activities and school events.
Relentless is the word that comes to mind about Tony, state Rep. T.R. Rowe, who also represents Trumbull, said in a press release. There are few legislators that are as involved in the type of community outreach he does. Many have nice sound bites, but none are as active as Tony. He is tireless.
Democrat Heather Dean, a member of Fairfields Representative Town Meeting, has announced that she will challenge Hwang in the November election. Dean received her partys nomination last month.
