“We certainly had a packed year, and this next year looks to be equally challenging,” Steele said. “My goal has always been to moderate with an even-handed approach, and to maintain an orderly flow of business.”

Steele’s duties will include running RTM meetings, coordinating communication among committee chairs and preparing necessary documents for each agenda item. Should Steele be unavailable to perform the job for a meeting or need to recuse himself for a vote, Ference will take over as deputy moderator.

Steele was first elected to the post in May of 2010, after then-moderator James Walsh moved to the Board of Selectmen. Since then he has been unopposed for the job in each of his three re-appointments.

“I’ll take this vote as an indication of your confidence in me, as well as the fact that nobody else wants to do it,” Steele joked to the RTM Monday night.
