FAIRFIELD, Conn. If youre thinking about trying one of Fairfields many eateries, youll have the perfect opportunity next month. More than 30 will participate in the inaugural Fairfield Restaurant Week in October.
Weve gotten a great response, Community and Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart said as he announced the program Wednesday afternoon. There are a lot of great restaurants every kind of cuisine, palate and price range.
Fairfields first-ever Restaurant Week will run from Oct. 14 to 20. Like similar events in Stamford, Norwalk and other surrounding towns, participating restaurants will offer prix fixe menus and discounts to customers throughout the week.
Sweet Basil, Centro, Old Post Tavern, La Brasserie, Paci, Avellinos, Martel, The Chelsea, LC Chen, Mike Gennaros Steakhouse and Café Madeline are listed on the events website. Café Lola, Mamma Minas, Hunan Pavilion, Fairfield Café, Wafu Asian Bistro, The Gray Goose Café, Bodega Taco Bar, Barcelona Wine Bar, Archie Moores, Bon Appetit, Bella Sera, Wild Rice, Artisan, 55 Degrees, Tabouli Grill, the Colony Grill and Osianna Mediterranean have also been confirmed as participants.
The town is printing Restaurant Week passports for Fairfielders to track their progress. Each restaurant will give out stamps to diners with passports during the week. People who collect two or more stamps will be entered in a raffle for a free night at the Delamar Hotel in Southport and other prizes.
Fairfields week will also go beyond its restaurants. The economic development office has made deals with both universities in town, the Fairfield Theatre Company, the Fairfield Museum and History Center, the towns libraries and the SportsPlex to plan special concerts and other events for families to plan full nights on the town.
With Fairfields downtown being as exciting as it is, being a destination location, we really want to show Fairfield off, First Selectman Michael Tetreau said. We have people coming, and we want to keep that going. We want to introduce Fairfield to more people.
The Economic Development office is setting up a website with information on all the participating restaurants. Fairfield Restaurant Week also has a Twitter feed and a Facebook page you can follow. Barnhart said hes open to suggestions for more programs or improvements.
If were not able to do it this go-round, theres always next year, he said.
