It has now been more than a week since snow or ice last fell onto Fairfield. In a winter like this, that counts as a minor miracle. Better still, aside from light flurries possible Saturday, forecasters predict sunny weather for at least the next week.
So James Bryant did want to let the opportunity pass him by. His three dogs need exercise. And he made sure to take them to the shores of Jennings Beach on Thursday to let them run around and enjoy the sun.
Oh, they love it, James says of the sunny beach. I mean, who likes it when its freezing out? Sometimes I dont even get out of the house.
James wasnt the only one letting his four-legged friends run wild on Fairfields leash-free beach. Eastons Carmela took her three Labradoodles out to the beaches Thursday to reunite with their mother, owned by a friend. While Daisy, Terrence and Ziggy swam around in Long Island Sound, she enjoyed the energizing feel of the sun.
They have been cooped up this year, Carmela says. Thats why they go crazy when they get to the beach.
Leah and Arnold Larson dont have a dog, but they found themselves enjoying Fairfields sunny beaches. The curious couple followed a group of dump trucks hauling snow away from the streets. When they reached the end of the line at Jennings, they decided to stick around.
Its nice to be able to get out on the beach again, Leah says. Arnold says he cant remember a month as bad as this past January, when nearly 40 inches of snow was dumped on Fairfield. But despite the huge mountains of snow behind them, the Larsons were hopeful that the rest of February would stay as sunny as the past week.
I think were through the worst of it now, Arnold says.
