Fairfield Warde High Schools Interact Club is constantly looking for ways to branch out on a small and large scale to make a difference in the community, from planting flowers and raking leaves for Operation Hope, to sleeping in boxes to raise awareness of homelessness. The club is now entrenched in planning its biggest annual project: the Harmony talent show.
Since establishing the project five years ago, Interact has chosen a different cause to support with the money made from the show. Susie Slepian, Warde senior and co-president of the club, says, The goal of the Harmony talent show is usually to reach out internationally, and this year we chose Haiti because people seem to have forgotten since the earthquake that the country is still in dire need of aid."
The benefit show is unique in that it is largely student-run. Interact board members lead Harmony for Haiti committees, which organize different aspects of the show, such as ushering, ticketing, backstage work and making guitar pick jewelry to sell.
Before the show date, Interact is also busy selling ads for the program, coordinating with Ludlowes Interact Club, which organizes a bake sale at the show, and of course, holding auditions for the shows acts, which include performers from both high schools. Says Warde senior Leila Fletcher, Interact Clubs other co-president, "[Harmony] brings together the talented performers we have here in Fairfield. In the past, this has included gymnasts, singers, dancers, musicians and even some teacher acts.
