FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield Warde High School sped through its 2012 graduation ceremony Thursday evening. There might be some debate as to whether the speed was to get out of the 90-degree sunlight or if the students were just eager to start their futures.
Whatever the reason, the three student speakers kept their remarks brief, but they were no less inspiring to their classmates. Class of 2012 speaker Jessica Altchiler mused on the importance of Wardes infamous acronym: welcoming, academic, respectful, dynamic and ethical. Salutatorian Lydia Brown reminded her fellow graduates of the power of imagination and how it drove the careers of visionaries such as Walt Disney and Steve Jobs.
And Valedictorian Daniel Shur spoke of the interesting future the Class of 2012 has in front of it. He especially stressed the importance of the technological advances that have benefited his generation, from modern medicine to Twitter.
We are living in an era where 140 characters can change the worldfor better or for worse, Shur said. Within our grasp is this power that past generations could only dream about.
