FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfield Warde head football coach Duncan DellaVolpe is quick to admit that the state playoffs have been beyond the reach of his team in recent years. But with one of the highest starter retention rates in the conference, that might not be an impossible dream anymore.
In the accompanying video, DellaVolpe discusses why his team is getting mentioned by opposing team's coaches and how his team plans to attack a tough schedule this season. He also talks about the three-year plan he set out to accomplish when he was hired three years ago. After consecutive 5-5 seasons, DellaVolpe thinks a winning season is now a reasonable goal.
Fairfield Warde begins its 2011 campaign Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. when the Mustangs host Brien McMahon High School. Warde will host five other home gamesagainst Darien, Bassick, Trinity Catholic, St. Joseph and Wilton. The Mustangs hit the road to take on New Canaan, Ridgefield, Staples and lastly Fairfield Ludlowe for their annual Thanksgiving Day matchup.
