FAIRFIELD, Conn. A 17-year-old Fairfield University student was charged with causing property damage to cars along Reef Road early Sunday morning. Witnesses told police the student from North Merrick, N.Y., tore the side mirrors off several cars parked along the street.
A resident called police to report witnessing one of the acts of vandalism at about 3:25 a.m. Sunday. Shortly afterward, officers found a man who fit the witnesss description at the corner of Reef Road and Millard Street. The witness positively identified him as the culprit.
Police charged the student with criminal mischief and released him on a promise to appear in court. He will face charges in Juvenile Court on Sept. 27.

Jorge Lopez, 20, of Bridgeport was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop for a cracked windshield Saturday morning, police reported. Officers pulled Lopez over at the traffic circle on Kings Highway and said they smelled burnt marijuana as Lopez rolled down the window. A search of the car turned up six individually wrapped bags of marijuana, emptied cigar wrappers, packaging material and an electronic scale.
Police charged Lopez with manufacture and sale of restricted substances, use and possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal distribution of prescription medication and possession of alcohol by a minor. He was held on a $10,000 bond and is due in court Sept. 27.
