The championships for the Fairfield Little League Girls Softball teams come in the summer. The work behind those banners comes during the winner. Rob Caione, manager of the 14-and-under team, works with the girls every Wednesday night at Tomlinson Middle School. The girls also practice Saturdays, and pitchers attend workouts Sundays in addition to the other meetings.
The team also competes as the Fairfield Light 97s in the Fairfield County Fastpitch Softball League and will begin tournament competition next month.
Last year, the league's teams won the 9- and 10-year-old state title, and the 12-year-old All-Stars, who Caione managed, won the district title and lost in the Section 1 championship game.
