Fairfield Runners Compete at State Open

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield Warde High senior Harry Warnick finished second in the 3,200 and third in the  1,600 to lead Fairfield athletes at the State Open track meet Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Warnick ran 9:31:54 in the 3,200, a staggering 16-second drop from his seeded time in the event. Jake Feinstein of Newtown won the race in 9:28:53.

In the 1,600, Warnick ran 4:20:79 – more than two seconds ahead of his seeded time – as Amity’s Clark Shurtleff won in 4:16:48. Rocky Hill’s Joe Crafa took second with 4:17:16.

Warde’s Cate Allen finished 10th in the 1,600, and 11th in the 1,000. Warde’s girls took 10th in the 4 x 800 relay with Caroline Keough, Jackie Wall, Lexi Hoadley and Jillian Talent.

The sprint medley for Warde’s girls was 12th with an all-underclassmen lineup. Nicole Ciccarelli, Heather Gans Paige Hanley and Katie Tagney comprised the Warde lineup.

For Fairfield Ludlowe High School, Andrew Fernandes took ninth in the 600. Fairfield Prep senior Patrick Coronoa took fourth in the 1,000.
