Fairfield Runners Capture State Track Titles

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Senior Harry Warnick and sophomore Cate Allen each won two races to lead a strong performance by Fairfield Warde runners at the Class L indoor track and field championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven. Fairfield Ludlowe’s Jack White also came away with an individual victory.

Allen won the 1,000 and 1,600 while Warnick won the 1,600 and 3,200. White won the 1,000. Warde’s girls finished fourth with 43 points. Ludlowe’s boys finished fifth with 32, while Warde took seventh with 24.

Allen shaved nearly five seconds off of her seeded time to win the 1,000 in 2:59:57. Her time of 5:16.41 in the 1,600 was four seconds better than her seeded time. Warnick waltzed in both races, winning the 1,600 by more than six seconds in 4:23 and the 3,200 by nearly 11 seconds in 9:47.6. 

Other scorers for Warde in the girls races included Lia Johan (fifth, 300), Lexi Hoadley (sixth, 1,600) and Caroline Keough (fourth, 3,200).

Warde’s 4x800 relay also took second with Keough, Jackie Wall, Jillian Tallent and Hoadley. The 4x400 was third with Nicole Ciccarelli, Heather Gans, Paige Hanley and Katie Tangney.

For the Warde boys, the sprint medley was fourth, with Gary Azarian, Joseph Miro, Connor O’Day and Stuart Peters.

For Ludlowe, White ran 2:36.08 to win the 1,000, four seconds clear of his closest rival.

Other scorers for Ludlowe included Andrew Fernandes with a second place finish in the 600.

Ludlowe also took third in the 4x400 relay with Jordan Filipowich, John Grant, White and Fernandes. The sprint medley took second with the same group.

Complete results are available online. The top performers will advance to the State Open on Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.
