FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield National U10 Little League team is the new District 2 champion. The team celebrates, above, after defeating Trumbull National, 7-1, at Unity Park in Trumbull.
Fairfield pitchers David Summers and Christopher Saladin combined for a three-hitter in Monday night's contest, Summers going four innings and notching the win.
A gritty Jackson Hommel sparked a rally for Fairfield, bunting his way to first after a pitch bounced off his bat and struck him above the eye on a previous try.
Saladin followed with a booming double to straight-away center that carried over the head of the fielder.
