Fairfield Man Hurt After Suspected Window Leap

FAIRFIELD, Conn. ? A Fairfield man suspected of throwing himself into a club's plate-glass window was charged with criminal mischief early Sunday morning, police say. Shawn Garrity, 49, of Oyster Road, was hospitalized for treatment for lacerations, police say.

An employee at the Gray Goose Cafe in Southport told police that Garrity was in the area of the bar causing a disturbance at about 12:30 a.m. Monday. The witness said Garrity appeared intoxicated, and was harassing the bar’s customers both inside and outside the business, according to the police report.

Garrity then reportedly jumped into the first-floor window of the nearby Southport Racquet Club, causing $2,000 in damage, police say. When officers arrived he was bleeding from cuts to his legs and back. He was treated by paramedics at the scene for his injuries.

Garrity was charged with criminal mischief and a breach of the peace, both misdemeanors. He was released on a promise to appear in court on July 30. He was then taken to Bridgeport Hospital for further treatment.
