Fairfield Man Charged for Crash While on Meds

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield man was charged with driving under the influence in an accident that occurred in October. David Drabaski, 58, of Duck Farm Road, rear-ended another car while drinking and taking prescription medication, police say.

In the Oct. 18 accident, a car was stopped at a red light on Holland Hill Road at North Benson when Drabaski hit the vehicle. He then drove onto the shoulder, around the other vehicle, before stopping just in front of the other car.

When officers arrived, they found Drabaski still in his car, attempting to ingest pills, according to the police report. A bottle of the painkiller oxycodone was in his hand, and though the prescription had been filled that day many were missing, police say. An empty bottle of blackberry brandy was also found in the car.

The other driver was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for back and head pain. Drabaski also went to the hospital for detoxification treatment. A medical records search found that he was above the legal limit for alcohol and had oxycodone in his system at the time of the accident, police say.

Drabaski turned himself in to Fairfield police Tuesday. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence and following too closely. He was released on $2,500 bond and is due in court to face charges Dec. 27.
