FAIRFIELD, Conn. Abby Markowitz of Greenwich showed Fairfield Ludlowe's Heather Moriarty her heels in winning the Wilton Invitational two weeks ago. The Cardinal runner, in her first season of cross country as a senior, showed Tuesday that her win was not a fluke. She again bested Moriarty, the defending FCIAC cross country champ, this time on the latter's home course.Moriarty led Markowitz and Greenwich freshman Sarah Fountain through the first third of the race before the Cardinal duo passed her and pulled away to a margin over nearly a minute at the finish. "I felt good at the start, but then my legs started to get heavy," said Moriarty. "I don't know. I don't think I warmed up enough."Greenwich got the best of Ludlowe as a team, too, beating the hosts, 18-44. The Falcons also beat Norwalk and Bassick, the other teams in the meet.Moriarty has three weeks to close the gap that Markowitz, a state champ in track last year, has established. The FCIAC cross country championships will be held at Waveny Park in New Canaan on Oct. 20. Moriarty has to hope then when she races Markowitz again that the third time will be the charm.The Ludlowe boys, despite senior Jack White's seven-second victory, fell to Greenwich and Norwalk but beat Bassick.
