FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield Republican Town Committee unanimously voted to nominate state Rep. Brenda Kupchick for a second term last week. She is running for re-election for Fairfields 132nd District seat in the state House of Representatives.
In my first term I have taken every opportunity to listen to the people of Fairfield and learn from them about the challenges they face, Kupchick said in a press release. Its a privilege to bring their voices to the legislature.
Professionally, Kupchick and her husband, Peter, run a heating and cooling company based in Fairfield. She started her political career as the founder of One Voice, a citizens education advocacy group. She served on Fairfields Representative Town Meeting and Board of Education before heading to Hartford.
Representative Kupchick is truly a grassroots legislator, added Fairfield Republican Town Committee Chairman Jamie Millington. In her first term, Brenda has made it a priority to communicate with constituents through email, the Internet, town hall forums and legislator on your corner meetings. She is always accessible to the people of our town.
In 2010, Kupchick beat Democratic State Rep. Tom Drew of the 132nd district by a 21-vote margin. But the district has changed since then. The state redistricting committee redrew the boundary lines of Fairfields districts.
The 132nd now covers all homes south of Hulls Farm Road and west of North Benson Road. It also includes a strip of land that runs roughly from Fairfield University to the Samp Mortar Reservoir.
My constituents have been very vocal about the need to bring the outrageous growth in state spending under control and reduce the size of Connecticuts bloated bureaucracy, Kupchick said. If re-elected, I will continue to fight for fiscal responsibility and common sense principles.
Kupchick will face either Board of Education member Sue Brand or firefighter Kevin Coyner in Novembers election. The 132nd Districts Democrats nominated Brand last week, but Coyner has filed for a primary in the race. Registered Democrats will pick a candidate Aug. 14.
