Fairfield Fire Causes Minor Damage, No Injuries

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield family managed to escape a fire at their Plum Street home early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The fire caused about $1,000 in damage to the house’s porch, but the residents and their two young children managed to get out safely, officials said.

Fairfield Fire Department crews responded to the fire at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. They found smoke coming from the front of the building at 27 Plum St. All occupants were safely outside when emergency responders arrived, and they declined medical attention at the scene, officials said. The family told firefighters its smoke detectors woke them up.

Firefighters put out the fire and began ventilating the smoke before it spread to the main residence. Fairfield Fire Marshal Bill Kessler still is investigating the incident, but he believes the fire was accidental in nature.
