FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Milford man was charged with driving under the influence Saturday afternoon, but that wasnt the end of his bad day. He reported his wallet stolen from the Fairfield police station while he was being processed, according to police.
A witness called police Saturday afternoon to report a reckless driver on Old Stratfield Road. The caller pointed out the car to officers and they pulled over Troy Ruff, 48, of Milford. Ruff spontaneously stated that hed been drinking alcohol all day, police say. He then failed field sobriety tests at the scene, and a breath test at Fairfield Police Headquarters, according to the police report.
While he was in police custody, Ruffs wallet was placed on a desk in the Fairfield police stations booking area. Another suspect was in the area at the time, and was taken out of handcuffs at points during his processing, police say.
After the other suspect left, Ruff reported his wallet with $131 in cash missing. Police contacted the other suspects bail bondsman, who reported that he did not see the wallet on the other suspect, who had already arrived home, according to the police report.
Ruff was charged with driving under the influence, operating a car with a suspended license and driving without insurance. His bond was initially set at $100, but later reduced to a promise to appear in court. He is due in court Aug. 14. The theft is still under investigation.
