FAIRFIELD, Conn. For its work to improve traffic safety in town, the Fairfield Police Department received AAA of Southern New Englands Gold Award last week.
This is quite an honor, said Sgt. Robert Kalamaras of Fairfields Traffic Enforcement Unit. "It shows that we are doing our job and trying to take corrective measures to get to the root of any traffic safety-related problems.
Susan Mayko of AAA presented the award to Chief Gary MacNamara and Police Commission member Arthur Hersh. Fairfield earned the award in part because of its Safe Routes to School program, which helped kids walk to a handful of Fairfield middle and elementary schools more safely, Mayko said.
She also pointed out the departments occasional accident scene investigation mockups at Fairfields high schools and its citizens police academy.
On behalf of the Fairfield community, I would like to recognize the Fairfield Police Department for their dedicated ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety, First Selectman Michael Tetreau said in a statement. I would also like to thank our Towns engineering and public works departments which collaborate with our police department to help keep all our residents safe.
