FAIRFIELD, Conn. A Bridgeport man was charged with theft and reckless endangerment Tuesday after he abandoned a stolen car near the Fairfield-Bridgeport line and it collided with a parked car, according to police.
A Fairfield police officer pulled the car over on State Street at about 1 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of misuse of license plates, police say. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver and two other men got out and fled, leaving it to hit a parked car.
Police found the drivers jacket nearby. Bridgeport K-9 officers tracked the scent to Rafael Cooney, 21, of Bridgeport, who had been stopped for an interview by police near the corner of State Street and Clinton Avenue, according to the police report. Police believe Cooney was the driver of the car, which was reported stolen in Stamford.
Cooney was charged with larceny, reckless endangerment, criminal trover, interfering with an officer and motor vehicle infractions. Bond was set at $7,500. Police are still looking for the other two men.
