FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield 8th Grade Blue Team of the Fairfield County Football League opened its season with a nail-biting, down-to-the-last-minute 15-14 win over Wilton.
Wiltons first quarter TD was limited to six points due to a blocked extra-point kick by special teams big man Connor Reilly. Fairfields Chris Howell tied things up in the second quarter with a 60-yard run up the left side. Fairfield went for two and Spencer Foley came through big with a power run up the middle for an 8-6 lead. Fairfields defensive line of James Speer, David Abrahams, Mark Schwartz and Lee Johansson kept the pressure on, allowing Wilton only eight points in the second half.
Fairfield was down 14-8 in the fourth quarter's' last minute of play when QB Conor Gallagher scored on a keeper up the middle to tie it and Chris Howell ran in for the deciding extra point. Chase Lind put the game on ice with an interception, and Fairfield blue scored its first win.
The Fairfield 8th-grade Blue team will host Westports Senior North team on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe High School field. Come on out and join the action!
