Fair Will Feature 85 Artisans

Anthony Sindoni doesn't think the closing of the street in front of his glass shop Saturday will hurt business. In fact, he expects a bit of a boost.

"I'll be setting up a table outside. There'll be good foot traffic," said Sindoni, one of 85 craft and artisan displayers participating in Arts & Crafts on Bedford, a street fair presented by the Stamford Downtown Special Services District.

The fair will take place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bedford Street between Broad Street and Walton Place will be closed to vehicular traffic for the event. Portions of Spring and Forest streets also will be closed.

"It's one of our stellar events that brings thousands of people downtown," said Sandy Goldstein, SDSSD president. She said the annual event has been offered for about the past 10 years. In addition to arts, crafts and food, there'll be hands-on activities for kids.

"The show has grown over the years," Goldstein said. "Vendors keep coming back, so they must like it."

Sindoni's Artistic Hand Blown Glass shop has been located at 168 Bedford St. for the past three years. The store features exotic vases, candlestick holders, lamps, jewelry and other assorted and one-of-a-kind objects created by more than 70 artisans.

"They're all American-made hand-blown glasses by many of the top glassblowers in the country," said Sindoni, who was a collector for 20 years before opening his shop.

Sindoni said he welcomes back the street fair because of the positive experience he had last year.

"It attracts people to the area. I sold a lot of artistic glass to a lot of people."
