Lindsey Evans of Fairfield was a key contributor who helped the Shippan Stormers 14-and-under tennis team win the New England Sectional Championships recently and qualify for a berth in the National Championships.
The Stormers, who are based out of the Shippan Racquet Club in Stamford, won all three of their team matches and Evans was on a winning girls' doubles team in every match. Evans and Kateri Martin teamed up for a pivotal victory to help lead Shippan to a 3-2 victory over a team from southern Connecticut in the sectional final.
The Martin-Evans girls' doubles team was victorious in a 5-0 victory over Providence and Evans teamed up with Anna Rogers for a win in girls' doubles during Shippan's opening 4-1 victory over the team from Boston.
Rogers won in girls singles and in mixed doubles in the sectional final. Brian Niguidula, Digby Phillpot and Prashant Toteja were the boys on the team who also won matches.
