Energize Your Home Efficiently In Armonk

ARMONK N.Y. – Putting on sweatshirts in your house to avoid the cold and waking up sweating in the middle of a summer night can be avoided, and all without an increase in bills. Energize North Castle, an energy efficiency program funded by government grants, is dedicated to improving your home’s efficiency without breaking your bank.

Tim Bregman, director of Energize North Castle, says a quick home tuneup can easily improve a home.

“People often have rooms in their home that just aren’t comfortable to go in,” Bregman said. “Either because it’s too cold in the winter, or it’s too hot in the summer.”

Bregman gave an in-depth presentation on the program at last week’s North Castle Town Board meeting in Armonk. The grants come from the federal Department of Energy and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

Residents in Armonk can apply for a grant through Energize North Castle, which if obtained includes a home assessment and improvement project. Bregman said the tuneup typically takes two to three days to complete and does not include any major household projects such as installing solar panels or skylights.

“It’s really just about a tuneup that can just be making sure there’s not drafts in the house, air sealing,” Bregman said. “And this can improve a homeowner’s value.”

Energy North Castle is a part of the Northern Westchester Energy Action Consortium and launched this year. Similar programs in the consortium have been implemented in other Westchester communities such as Bedford and New Rochelle.

The goal, Bregman said, is to have one in three homes energy-efficient in North Castle. Total homeowner savings from that could reach $1.23 million.

“Those are dollars that are not going to utilities or the big oil companies,” Bregman said. “Those are dollars that are staying here and used here in town.”
