Emergency Crews: Please Don't Touch Barricades

The following is a message from the New Canaan Office of Emergency Management on Monday.

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Earlier this morning, we outlined our priorities to ultimately restore power to our residents, schools, businesses and town assets. You may recall that the first step was the mitigation of safety issues, which involve downed live wires. This effort is still under way as we speak. West Road, Carter Street, Country Club Road, Frogtown Road, Jelliff Mill Road, Wahackme Road and Lambert Road are now passable. We continue to make progress, but we urge residents to continue to pace themselves as this is a marathon and not a sprint.

We also want to reiterate an important concern and ask for your assistance. We went to great lengths to identify and barricade over 170 live wires in order to lift the curfew. To ensure the safety of our residents and our emergency responders, we sent crews out this morning to confirm that all hazards were properly identified and barricaded. We then had to spend a considerable amount of time and resources remarking the same hazards and replacing the moved barricades. We will not compromise on safety.  We need the tape and barricades to be left untouched so that we can allocate our resources toward other pressing matters. We will provide further updates on Tuesday. Thank you for your patience and stay safe.

Residents with questions about the cleanup and restoration efforts can contact the emergency operations center at 203-594-4100.
