Eighty-Four Ticketed During Speeding Enforcement

CORTLANDT—New York State Troopers handed out 84 tickets along Route 9 in Cortlandt on Saturday, ranging from seatbelt violations to speeding violations reaching 93 miles per hour.

The Town of Cortlandt has already requested increased enforcement in residential neighborhoods from Westchester County Police, who, like the New York State Police, have barracks in Cortlandt Manor. This increased enforcement is welcome news to Cortlandt residents, as complaints to the town precipitated the town’s request for more enforcement.

Members of The Daily Cortlandt’s Facebook community have described residential Cortlandt streets as a “raceway,” according to Debbie Doorley, to cars “whipping around,” said Michael Mitchell.

The Town of Cortlandt issued a press release on July 11 to remind residents to slow down, “The safety of our residents is always a priority,” said the release, “the goal,” the release said about the increased enforcement, “is to slow down traffic and keep our roads safer.”
