The confrontation began at the intersection of Street and Easton roads in Warrington Township, Bucks County around 10:27 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, according to Warrington Township Police.
The victim told investigators he had pulled out of the Creekview Shopping Center and entered the left lane while driving on a flat tire when a Jeep cut in front of him.
As traffic slowed for a red light, the Jeep’s driver — later identified as 44-year-old Warrington resident Edward John Dotson — got out holding an expandable baton, police said.
Believing Dotson might also have a gun, the victim tried to get away and pulled into a vacant lot, according to police. Dotson followed him into the lot, got out of the Jeep, and approached him while still carrying the baton, investigators said.
The victim then got out of his vehicle because he feared Dotson was going to attack him, police said.
Dotson punched him in the face with a closed fist, leaving him with swelling, a cut lip, and a cut to his hand, according to police. The victim fought back during the confrontation.
Officers later located Dotson’s Jeep and spotted the expandable baton in plain view inside, police said.
A warrant was issued, and Dotson was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 8. He was charged with possessing a prohibited offensive weapon, two counts of simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment.
Dotson was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Stacy Wertman Galloway, who set his bail at $10,000. Unable to post 10%, he was taken to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
