Legislators examined the project's environmental review determination and jail bond issues such as the current structure's deficiencies and how to lower the county's incarceration rate, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
County Excecutive Marc Molinaro said the plan will save the county $5.3 million per year, even after taking the cost of debt repayment into consideration, reported the Poughkeepsie Journal.
The project's total cost including projected interest is $274 million with an annual dept payment of $9.9 million beginning in 2021, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
The North Hamilton Street jail can currently house 250 inmates, and close to 200 inmates are housed out of the county at an annual expense of $8 million, reported the Poughkeepsie Journal.
A vote will be placed on the matters on March 21, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.
